Neck Fillers

Neck fillers are a simple treatment to treat the lines on our necks. As we age, it is common to get neck wrinkles. These can be treated very easily and with great results with dermal filler.

How long it takes

Approximate treatment time is 30–40 minutes.

Return to work

Approximately 1 hour after treatment.

Recovery time

Approximately 24–72 hours after treatment.

How long it lasts

Approximately 6 months after treatment.

Why do we get Neck Lines?

Just like any lines or wrinkles, a combination of a breakdown in collagen and elastin in the skin, making the skin thinner and less able to recover from the sun and environmental damage and the steady depleting tissue volume and bone loss.

The balloon is deflating. The mouth area gets a good deal of movement in a day, chewing, speaking and smiling, so it tends to be an area that loses volume early causing the corners of the mouth to turn downward, the lips to thin out and lines to form above and below the lips as well. Curious as to what those are called? Barcode lines. Another perfect, yet rather cheeky cosmetic term.

What happens during the treatment?

The neck will be cleaned with alcohol and chlorhexidine. Ice will be applied to the area briefly before treatment The doctor will usually inject using a very fine needle, injecting hundreds of times along the necklines. Then pressure with gauze will be applied.

Why are they the safest?

There is an enzyme available which can break down hyaluronic acid fillers instantly in the rare event of a blood vessel being constricted. (Hyaluronidase) It’s a good option to have and not every filler has this antidote. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma and Restylane’s thickest product, Perlane, are still some of the best and safest solutions. You want a long-lasting filler with plenty of ‘puff’ and a bit of stiffness to support this area.

Does the procedure hurt?

The fillers themselves have a local anaesthetic built into them which numbs the tissue as it’s injected. Occasionally a topical numbing cream is applied for 10-20 minutes before the treatment to help make it as comfortable as possible.

Do I have to pay for my consultation?

A £50 no-refundable deposit is required and can be used toward either the face to face consultation OR the treatment on the day.

Dr Natasha will give a consultation, discuss and advise all available options with the client prior to the treatment. A thorough medical history will be discussed before each treatment is carried out. A discussion will take place at the consultation, as to the look and which treatment the client requires.

Once the client fully understands what’s involved with the treatment:

  • A consent form is then signed,
  • Pre-treatment photos are taken.

If the client is happy to proceed, then the treatment will go ahead.

What happens after the treatment?

Bruising is a common side effect post-treatment. Swelling in the injection area will also occur, but this is completely normal and will usually last for around 48 hours. You may also notice that the injected area will be tender for up to 5 days following the treatment. Dr Natasha will give aftercare advice, and answer any questions or queries the client may have. Dr Natasha will arrange a future appointment date with the client, for a post-procedure checkup. Dr Natasha will also advise that the post-procedure recommendations are followed.

You also may require further treatments. With necklines, the result from the first treatment will be very good, but obviously incomplete, there will be many little ‘missing bits’ along the neck wrinkle, which need to be picked up during the second and third treatment

Post-procedure Advice

  • No makeup for 4 hours
  • No heavy exercise that day
  • No acid face products for 24 hours
  • No spas no saunas, no hot yoga for 1-week post-treatment
  • Avoid touching or massaging the injected area, unless absolutely necessary
  • Wear a scarf

How long will the treatment last?

The answer to this is very individual and depends on the patient’s anatomy, metabolism, the dose, the placement, the product etc. Typically after the first treatment, you should have a second treatment after 6 months, a third after another 6 months and then once yearly.
